Prom Themes--that is, the look and feel of your prom. This is usually selected by your prom committee, and it is used to decide the decorations, music, type of food, and lots of other little things that give your prom night its special flavor.
Below, you can read some of the really great themes prom committees have cooked up over the years. You can use them to get ideas for your own theme. And you can submit the theme of your prom--either this year's, last year's, or any other year's. Do share it with the rest of us!
Our prom theme this year is Bella Noche. I'm on the planning committee and we're going on a boat for like a 3 hour cruise and there's going to be lots of lights and stars and stuff. It will be really pretty. And it's at night, so, Bella Noche or Beautiful Night, makes sense. lol.

we have been considering many themes developing form a ball to stary night to central park then to stars and central park combined...then we threw them all out for some kinda winterland idea... my advice is picka theme and move on dont waste months arguing.... prom can be so overrated, have fun with it for heavens sake! and have the night of ur life wherever you set your theme.

My JR year our theam was a night with the stars and we had Jovani Red Carpet dresses and the cardboard statues of old hollywood stars, and this year for 2008 (SR YEAR) they are thinking Phantom of the Opera and im not real thrilled b/c it sounds pretty lame!! especially since the decor for hollywodd last year stunk and it's not hard to do that, haveing a theam after a play is gonna be horrible!!

Our theme this year is going to be a "Night in Venice. We are having it at a mercedes-benz dealership which is outstanding. And where we are hosting it, one of the rooms, is made to look like a european street with cobblestone and everything.

Hey all! Just found this site whilst looking for ideas for our yr 10 formal, which would probably be the equivalent of junior prom in the states. I came up with the theme and I am drawing, designing and constructing the themed decorations. The theme came to me all of a sudden as I am greatly inspired with classical beauty of past centuries. I thought to make the theme, 19th century circus, and have the walls and ceiling covered in decorations of classical circus. I'll make wall posters and life-sized reproductions of the famous acts such as the bearded woman and lion tamer.. also weight lifters, jugglers and fortune tellers! the invitations will also be themed, and so will the centre pieces at the tables.. HOPEFULLY I AM ABLE TO DO IT ALL :)

The theme was "A Midsummer Nights Dream" and it was outside by a big pond and close to the mountains and the dance floor was small but big enough, and outside there was a deck and people cooled off out there! it was okay but the pictures were wonderful! :]

Well I'm Class of 06 but I thought it was really cool that our homecoming theme were the superheros. Freshmens were Power Rangers, Sophmores were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Juniors were ??, and Seniors were Batman! And then for our prom, the theme was "A Whole New World". I thought there were going to be flying carpets or whatnot, but there wasn't. I didn't really like the theme, but I didn't mind either so it worked out well I guess.

our scgooll doesnt have an official prom, but we do have Annual Dinners.last year's it was "Hats, Feathers, and Masquerade".it was pretty cool, all glittery red,gold,and purple.everyone had to come with a mask.and the comittee provided masks for the teachers.

It seems that Americans take things much more seriously than us Canadians. But anyways, since I am still looking through page by page I thought I would share our school's semi-formal themes. When I was in grade 9 it was a Winter Wonderland theme. We had little fake white trees and they did this cool thing where they had a huge lit up star in the center of the gym roof with strands of lights coming down to each corner of the gym. Grade 10 waaass...hmmm...nvm, I think I combined Starry Night and Winter Wonderland together... Grade 11 was Paris, and they made an eiffel tower out of lights, and grade 12 was Sunset Boulevard, which was coolest. We made a Hollywood sign, got some art students to paint a sunset on this drape and put lights behind it, had a red carpet leading to the gym with rope lights on each side and a photo op at the end of the carpet with just simple white drapes, a couple pedestals and another small Hollywood sign over it.

Well, we've just started planning prom and I was thinking '007...but apparently everyone thought the same. HOWEVER, at our meeting tonight I brought up an asian theme and it was generally well liked. Think kimono looking fabrics for table cloths and things, maybe paper fans or custom made fortune cookies for favours, bamboo stalks for centerpieces, chinese food for the dinner, etc.

year's theme was A Garden of Dreams. It was at a place with a garden and a gazebo, a lot of people get married there. This year is I Wish You the Stars. It's at Fort Rapids water park and the colors are silver, dark blue, white, and black I think. It should turn out really cool.

I had this really sweet idea that we aren't doing...but if someone gets inspired, I think it would be cool. I'm from a small town so if it's a litte rustic bear with me...but I think the goal of a prom theme should be to be elegant...but still fun and interesting. What if you did 'Fishing in the Dark" (haha) and you could use the song and have the whole marshy foliage, starry night...with a silver moon and stars...your walk way could be an old school dock and you could even have a little romantic fishing boat sitting in a glittery little pond...lots of white lights and maybe even a willow looking tree!!!! Yay! yeah...we're doin stars...which will be nice I guess...oh well!!!

My Idea: Arabian Nights Transforming a building/gym: Bold shimmery fabric: Fushia, Emerald, Eggplant, etc. (with gold accents) hanged from above the middle of the gym cascading below to seem like pillowy effect.

Unfortunately I don't believe us NZ girls have quite mastered the art of creating a magical evening that is The Ball or as you Americans call "The Prom" (last year we did Fire & Ice – I mean COME ON?!) but this year my friend (no I can't take the credit for this one) envisioned our ball set in the middle of "The Rainforest". It was thought to be set in the zoo with wild animals ie. REAL cheetahs and exotic birds and flowers in the background under satin tents “thin enough to see the stars” (shot J.Lo) but... that’s where our creativity ended! We did homcoming "Do you remember" from Jack Johnson it was so cool we got pictures of the students as little kids and played a slide show of it during the whole dance. We had a big paper picture frame full of more pictures. We did the colors a purple and white it was AWESOME we had a cool fabric pattern on the wall. . Another fun Idea was "Superhero Sadies" people dressed up as their fav. superheros. the walls where covered with superheros a comic book theme.

We did 007 for homecoming, and our school is definitely not lenient. As long as you encourage something positive with catchy phrases like "we are the stars of tomorrow" and dont put weapons everywhere you will be fine. good luck 07's :)
